Excursion Girona and Dalí museum - Hotel in Tossa de Mar
We visit two different places on this excursion: The Theatre Museum Dalí and the town of Girona. At the first place, the largest number of works painted by the famous artist Salvador Dalí are on display, and at the second, Girona, we visit the capital of the province which is a town with it´s very own cultural heritage, and is very scenic and worthy of many photos.
The Theatre Museum Dalí, opened in 1974 and designed by the artist himself, contains a large display of surrealist work. Built on the remains of the old theatre of Figueres, the museum contains the most complete selection of works which portray the artistic career of Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), from his first artistic endeavours and his surrealistic creations to the works he created in the last years of his life.
A town of roman origin, the political and administrative capital of Girona is also very important architecturally and historically. The old town has one of the most important concentrated areas of monuments in the country.
It is lovely to lose yourself in the narrow little streets which make up the old Jewish quarter or El Call and visit the Isaac el Cec centre, which is located on the old grounds of the former synagogue. The town has also maintained the old Arab baths, which are one of the best maintained 13th century baths. The cathedral of Santa Maria, with just one gothic nave, is the widest of all gothic architecture in europe, and also has roman cloisters. Your archaelogical wanderings will take you round the medieval walls, allowing you brilliant views of the northern part of the old city walls.
